01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
Topped generously with plump prawns over thoroughly tossed grains, the shrimp miso fried rice is an immediate standout at O Ki in Bunkyo Ward's Sengoku neighborhood. Brimming with wok fragrance and savory shellfish depth, it offers a deeply satisfying plate on its own. The mapo tofu, another pillar of the kitchen, balances the tingle of Sichuan pepper with measured heat in a rich, robust sauce that pairs just as readily with steamed rice as it does tossed over noodles. For diner flexibility, small side portions of mapo tofu can also be added to set meals, allowing you to tailor lunch or dinner to your appetite.
The noodle options cover plenty of ground as well, including mixed vegetable yakisoba packed with produce, special tantanmen with customizable spice, and shredded pork and bell pepper noodles. Noodle dishes can be paired with a half fried rice or a small bowl of plain rice, letting you scale the meal up or down depending on how hungry you are. For lighter bites over drinks, snacks such as crispy shredded fried potatoes and fried squid tentacles provide easy accompaniments to bottles of Tsingtao beer or sours.
O Ki works comfortably for quick solo lunches as well as relaxed dinners, with sweet touches like coffee jelly occasionally rounding off the meal. The restaurant remains open straight through from midday into the evening. Because payment is cash only, it is best to have bills or coins on hand before stopping by.
